How do you get a dog to have their teeth brushed?
My family and I own a black labrador retriever. She is about five years old and has never had her teeth brushed and her teeth and breath are absolutely bad. I never thought much about it until I watched “The Martha Stewart Show” and Martha had an animal expert on there saying that dogs who don’t have their teeth brushed can get all sorts of nasty diseases.
Now I’m worried about my dog getting all sorts of stuff like abcesses and gum disease and others sorts of things.
My mom has tried to brush the dog’s teeth, but our pet refuses to open her mouth to get her teeth brushed.
Does anyone out there have any suggestions on how to deal with this?
I don’t ever need to- I feed my dogs and cats on raw meaty bones and their teeth are sparkling clean. My 15 year old cat has every tooth in her mouth and they are spotless.
Periodontal disease was not a problem before commercial pet food and now over 80% of dogs have it. This is directly food related as kibble and canned food stick to teeth rather than clean them.
With chunks of raw meat and meaty bones the meat acts like dental floss and cleans between the teeth while massaging the gums. The bone scrapes the teeth clean too.
