How do dogs crap without all the mess? IE, how can dogs poop so cleanly?
I am frustrated, as my dog can poop so cleanly. He runs out in the yard, drops off a half cubic yard of poop, kicks his back legs twice, and is done. Clean pooper shoot. I mean don’t take the white glove test to it.
When I take a pooper, the toilet bowl, and all surrounding areas look like a Jackson Pollack painting. It takes a trained crew of at least three people to sanitize the area. So how can dogs have such a clean easy poop? Okay, so they lack buttocks, but I don’t think that this is all.
Dog food (canned & dry kibble) is a specifically formulated product with balanced nutrients, protein, fat, carbohydrate & fiber. When you are feeding your dog the same food each day, every day, their body is able to process & digest it cleanly.
If you were to give your dog the same food you ate every day, your dog would have difficulties relieving himself ‘cleanly’, because one bowel movement would have a lot of fat & protein, but not a lot of carbohydrate, & the next could be high in fiber.
Sometimes, dogs will have a ‘soft’ stool, or just straight out diarrhea, which is usually an indication of either a change in their diet (got into the garbage & ate the leftover pizza?), a high level of stress in their environment, or an illness (not always serious, dogs get tummy upset too!).
But as long as your dog is producing a nice, firm stool, coming out clean, he is doing well.
As far as the stool not ‘sticking’ to the back end of the dog, yes I believe the lack of surrounding flesh is a bit part of it… the area of exit is kept free of obstruction, & their position (squatting) allows for a push of the stool in a different way than we can reproduce while sitting on the toilet. However, I do not suggest you attempt to poop like your dog to test this theory! =-)
