Hedgehog???

Hi I’m 14 and I want a hedgehog…. Opinions from hedgehog owners???
I do have small animal experience and I have like, no life, so I def. have time. I also have $500 to work with. There is also an AMAZING breeder in my home town in MA. That is $200. I have been reading about these pets online for months at the sites of good repute that the breeder told me about. I am a VERY responsible person and I really want this hedgehog. I also have my own dog. My parents have agreed that I can do this and will sign the adoption papers. But I want the opinions of other people???? Any important stuff you think I might not know but should???

THANK YOU!!!!!! <3

I am 21 and got a hedgehog last August. We are EXTREMELY happy with her.. they are inexpensive and interesting animals but have a few very important requirements:

diet- high fiber, low fat, moderate protein. look up hedgehog nutrition before purchasing food and make sure to include fresh fruits, vegetables and live insects.

activity- mine is getting a bit chubby around the rump, even though we let her out all the time. make sure you let her out anytime you’re out and about the house doing nothing. if you bond with it, it will develop a relationship with you.

health – either put fine sand paper in the wheel to file nails or trim regularly, and check mouth for teeth and growths regularly.

all in all a very rewarding pet! all these things it took months to find out, i hope this saves you a whole lot of trouble in the future.. happy hedge-ing.
