dogs showing teeth while playing

why do my dogs do this?
I own 2 dogs one is a 4 year old lab mix male. The other is a 1.5 year old german shepherd female. They cant live without each other, for example the male sometimes likes to “sleep in” so while he stays in to sleep the female goes outside but wont go 2 feet past the door until my lab comes outside too. She doesn’t go anywhere without him and they freak out if separated. But what i don’t get is that when they play they growl and show their teeth and get really aggressive. It puts a bad impression on guests and i don’t what people to think i got bad dogs because they would never bite anyone. The thing is they get jealous from each other, you cant play with one without the other coming over to get the same attention. They usually play aggressively if we have people over as if they are trying to show who is better. How can i stop this.
heather, you should think before you post.
They already know who is better, I`m sure one is the pack Alpha over the other.
What you might be confusing as aggression may simply be just the way they play with one another. Just take a look at a litter of pups they sort out pack structure and hierarchy all before 8 weeks of age and yes they do tend to play rough with one another.
Now for the problem of them acting out like this when people come over sounds to me like they need to learn the command “Leave It”.
Question here is have they been obedience trained?
If not perhaps enroll them at the same time if you have some one that can come to classes with you. this training should give you a leg up on this problem.
In the mean time I would simply not let both of them be inside at the same time to make your guests feel a little more comfortable.
Good luck and God bless
