how to fix a coat (dog coat) that’s too big?

the coat is too big for her body around the stomach, but the medium was too small for her legs. I should have just cut the legs on the medium but I spent the money for shipping and returned it once already to get the large so I’d rather just do sewing or something.
um. For those who do sewing. how would you go about sewing this? (I never sewed before ) Please help thank you!!
LOL, if you’ve never done sewing before, you might want to start with something a little simpler. 
Without seeing the actual coat itself, I’d say just to let someone else handle it. You might be able to just pinch it in at one of the seams, and then sew it in a little tighter, then cut off the extra. Turn it inside out and do it, so it wont be noticeable on the outside. If that makes sense.
