dogs that do not shed

dogs that do not shed
Dogs and Trucks.. Is this safe to do?

I suggested to my brother to put his dog in the back of his truck instead of the back seat of the cab. Mainly because the dog sheds and sneezes a lot and I think it’s unsanitary. He also whines and tries to stick his head out the windows and it may be distracting enough to cause an accident. The back has a cap so he cant jump or fall out. I thought if we laid some carpet down and tied him up he would be safe. My brother is concerned that the back would not be safe enough for him if any sort of accident or fender bender arrises. Or he may get sick. Is this true? Or how can I convince him otherwise?
Did you not read? I said because he’s distracting and it could cause an accident. It’s not all the time, just for short trips around the city. I’m concerned because he’s my brother. You’re right, it’s not my dog or my truck and yes it can be cleaned up. I was just wondering if a lot of dog owners put their dogs back there.

Solution: buy a car harness that will keep the dog safely in his seat, and keep the window that he is able to reach (if there is such a window in the back seat) closed. Ta-da, the dog can’t stick his head out of the window and cause a distraction. (However, these days it is a relatively common sight to see dogs in cars.. I doubt many people would swerve in shock if they were to see a dog’s head sticking out of a window.)

It would be no safer to put a dog back there than it would be a child. Your brother may not consider him a surrogate son, but I’m sure that he is a beloved member of the family. A lot of kids are shrieking, squirming monsters in the car, but you wouldn’t suggest that a kid be tied down in the truck bed, right? Because it just would not be safe.

If the whining really, really gets on your nerves, ask your brother to condition a positive association with the car. Have him just hang out in the truck sometimes with the dog; he can bring a book, an MP3 player or listen to the radio. He should feed the dog delicious treats for being quiet, and just get the dog accustomed to being quiet and relaxed in the truck.

As for the shedding and sneezing, yes, it’s gross, but that’s just a part of having a dog, and you’re right, it can simply be cleaned up.
