dogs working group

what is the most athletic dog in the working group?
Im looking for a running partner a companion and somewhat of a guard dog. Some of the dogs that have caught my eye are doberman, boxer, american bulldog. If there are other working dogs that i didn’t put give me some ideas. (i like more of the short haired dogs and please do not put any type of retreivers. or collies stricly want a working group dog)thankyou.
retrievers and collies are not in the working group they are in the SPORTING AND HERDING group that is why i made it a point to say just WORKING group.
Boxer would be PERFECT! Theyre energetic and smart so you could teach them to guard. Dobermans are good, although not as hyper as the boxer. Just make sure whatever you get, you see at least the mother of the dogs and see if shes somewhat what you want because chances are the puppies will act a lot like her. Also check your local shelter, theres always dogs like what your looking for there. (www.petfinder.com)
