how dogs see color

how dogs see color
How did people discover that dogs only see in black & white, & not color? Do other animals see in b/w, too?

Dogs can see come colors.

Light and color are perceived by the eye with receptors, the rods and the cones. The rods facilitate vision at night and in low light intensity and the cones are responsible for vision during the day and for color vision.

Dogs are known to have more rods than cones in there eyes which is where the theory that they only see black and white came from.
