Male vs Female dog fight?
HELP. I have a 13 yr male Cocker Spaniel and a 5 yr female English Bulldog. They are fine 95% of the time but occasional the female will get jealous or want what the male has and she will “egg” him on and fight him for it. Sometimes when they sleep 2gether she wants to cuddle w/him & he will start a fight b/c he doesn’t want 2. She has gotten much stronger than he is & is always on top, when i pull them apart the other one charges.
I don’t want either hurt, do I let the fight go to establish dominance or should i continue pulling them apart & separating them. Last night I had given each of them the same kind of rawhide & she started a fight b/c she wanted his. I pulled them apart & put collar & leads on them & took them outside & hosed them down & then gave them baths. Partly b/c this time 1 was bleeding & I was trying to see who it was & partly to say no I’m in control here. ANY suggestions are greatly appreciated b/c they are dearly loved & I don’t want to git rid of either
Fighting occasionally between the dogs is normal.They are a lot like siblings that fight. You may also want to try a spray bottle filled with water and spray them with it, or put about 10 pennies in a soda can and tape the top. Shake it to get their attention and tell them no. Do they have separate dog beds to sleep in? If all else fails I would consult a professional trainer.
