taking dogs to mexico
I am moving to Mexico, how can I take my 5# Chihuahua with me legally? What are the regulations?
Please serious answers only. I am moving from Michigan to Yucatan, Mexico, I plan on driving, but I want to take my dog too.
There will be no problem at all entering Mexico with your pet.
As another person said you will need a visa from the Mexican Government, that is both easy to get, for Americans, and cheap. Last time I checked a few years ago, it was 15 dollars.
However: If there is ANY possibility that you might want to bring your pet back with you, into the United States.
Cover all your bases.
Get a Health Certificate, and a full set of vaccinations from your veterinarian.
Also, while you are living there, in Mexico, make sure you keep all the vaccinations current, keep ALL your records, including the health certificate, even if it expires.
Then, just before you come back, get a new certificate of health from your Mexican veterinarian.
