Importing puppy from ireland to england

I may be buying a japanese spitz puppy from dublin in southern ireland. I was wondering what documentation or restrictions this would result in. It is possible for me to drive the dog to nothern ireland and transport it from there but is that much better?

I don’t know how true the following is but there is a large body of well meaning dog owners who point to Ireland as being the largest supplier of puppy farmed dogs to the UK .

It doesn’t follow that puppy farmers abuse dogs but they might be inter breeding too much.

The risk to you is that you might end up with a gorgeous new member of your family that becomes very ill and ends up costing thousands in vet fees or even worse dies once you have bonded.

i appreciate that even if you do not personally know the breeder that you might be too excited to take any notice of my advice. If so I wish you luck. Our first boy was from Harrods and we later discovered that they were using welsh puppy farms- he is fine health wise

There are no restrictions on bringing dogs in from ireland as both are rabies free

Just make sure that the ferry allows dogs upstairs. if you go via northen irland the crossing is shortest but driving might be higher depending on your final destination
